‘FC Utrecht China Executive Lounge’: where sport meets China-business

Utrecht Heerenveen Dragons BC

Dragons Businessclub, Business Network Guanxi.nu and football club FC Utrecht organised a successful event ‘Sport & China Business’ on 3 November 2013. Almost 130 exclusively invited guests from three networks were united at the Galgenwaard football stadium in Utrecht. The introduction of the ‘FC Utrecht China Executive Lounge’, inspiring keynote speakers, a network dinner, and a 2-0 victory for FC Utrecht against sc Heerenveen provided interesting food for thought. See the pictures.

Mr. Wilco van Schaik, managing director of FC Utrecht welcomed all guests and presented the football cooperation ambitions with Guangzhou in China. The major shareholder of FC Utrecht, Mr. Frans van Seumeren, shared his passion for football and for doing business with China. Mr. Willibrord van Beek, the Governor of the Province of Utrecht, mentioned that Utrecht is declared as the most competitive region of 73 regions in the European Union, according to the draft version of EU’s 2013 competition ranking. The beating heart of Europe accommodates a growing number of Chinese businesses due to its favourable business climate.

To further unlock the Dutch-Chinese business potential in the region Mr. Toon Nouwens, Commissioner of FC Utrecht, presented the launch of the ‘FC Utrecht China Executive Lounge’. This unique initiative in the Netherlands is a way to bring together Chinese and Dutch entrepreneurs at an executive level during FC Utrecht home matches. The aim is to offer the opportunity to build and maintain trusted relationships with fellow entrepreneurs and business colleagues who all share an interest in China-business. Mr. Nouwens is convinced that watching a football match under the relaxing circumstances of a luxury skybox lounge is a wonderful way to combine pleasure and work. Mr. Nouwens credo is: new leads, new companies and new opportunities via the ‘China Executive Lounge’!

Finally, Mr. Arie Haan, former coach of the Chinese national football team, disclosed his experiences to realise change by creating trust and social interaction in an intercultural context such as in China. The event was completed by watching the football game between FC Utrecht and Heerenveen, a walking diner and a Lucky Draw with many great prizes. The main prize was two flight tickets Amsterdam – Hong Kong sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways.
